A panel discussion focused on the importance of academic freedom and problems faced by academics when trying to carry out their work in repressive conditions. Speakers included a Thai academic and author who in 2009 fled to the UK after being charged under lese-majeste laws, which forbid criticism of the King, and an Iraqi visiting academic at the LSE under the Scholars at Risk (SAR) scheme.
