UK Programme Overview

The UK Programme provides assistance to enable persecuted academics residing in the UK (as asylum seekers, refugees, international students etc.) to return to academia or an allied profession at a level commensurate with their skills and experience.

There are three main services:

Grants to undertake postgraduate and professional courses in the UK.
An Education, Training and Employment (ETE) Service.
An Advice, Guidance and Signposting Service for persecuted academics and the wider refugee community.

We consider an individual to be a persecuted or at-risk academic if they:

Have experience as a paid Lecturer or Researcher in a University or higher education institution in their home country (NB. Experience in a third country may also be considered if there is valid reason they cannot return home in safety) and;
Have left their country or their occupation as a result of political, racial or religious oppression or discrimination or the fear of such oppression and discrimination.
