Donate regularly through your payroll

CARA is the Times Higher Education Nominated Charity in their November 2013 Awards

CARA’s creation in the 1930s was made possible through the generosity of academic staff at the London School of Economics who contributed a percentage of their salary towards an Academic Assistance Fund.

Regular donations through payroll provide CARA with a guaranteed income that ensures we can continue to provide much-needed support to persecuted and refugee academics.

Payroll Giving is a simple, tax-effective way of donating regularly. Under the scheme, you make your donation from your pay or pension before tax.

Every payday, an amount of money is deducted from your gross salary (before tax) by your payroll department and sent to CARA or another charity of your choice. This means more money for CARA at no extra cost to you. For example, if you are a basic rate tax payer and agree to give CARA £10 per month, it would only cost you £8.00 per month.

Employee donation Tax relief Cost to you
If you are 20% tax payer £10 £2 £8
If you are 40% tax payer £10 £4 £6

Ask your Payroll Department whether your employer offers Payroll Giving. If they do, fill in the simple application form, stating how much you would like to give and to which charities and return it to them. Your donations will show on your payslip.
